چکیده

Introduction Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) involvement is seen very often (17-87%) in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis that can lead to compromised craniomandibular function, dentofacial aestethics and morphology. Contrast enhanced MRI is the golden standart for diagnosis of TMJ arthritis (Argyropoulou, 2009). Previous studies show that HLA II class alleles may have protective or risk importance in JIA subtypes (Hollenbach, 2010).

HLA II class alleles in juvenile idiopathic arthritis patients with and without temporomandibular joint arthritis

BACKGROUND Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) arthritis is seen very often (38-87 %) in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). With contrast enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) we can detect more cases of TMJ arthritis than ever before. Previous studies show that HLA II class alleles may have protective or risk importance in JIA subtypes. Our objective is to identify HLA II class a...

Protective role of HLA-DRB1*11 against juvenile idiopathic arthritis living in North Eastern Iran

Objective(s): Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is one of the most common chronic rheumatic diseases in children. The complex nature of this immune-mediated disease owes itself to several predisposing genes and environmental factors affecting its pathogenesis. Conducted in Iran, this study was originally intended to investigate every possible association between HLA DRB1 alleles and a suscept...

Temporomandibular joint involvement in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis

OBJECTIVE To determine the rate of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) involvement and find factors associated with TMJ arthritis in a single-center cohort of patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). METHODS Retrospective analysis of all patients with JIA visiting the rheumatology clinic between January 1, 2005, and December 31, 2006. Followup information was included until August 2008. A...

Dental and facial characteristics of patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis.

OBJECTIVE It has been shown that the temporomandibular joint is frequently affected by juvenile idiopathic arthritis, and this degenerative disease, which may occur during facial growth, results in severe mandibular dysfunction. However, there are no studies that correlate oral health (tooth decay and gingival diseases) and temporomandibular joint dysfunction in patients with juvenile idiopathi...

Association of HLA-DRB1*13 with susceptibility to uveitis in juvenile idiopathic arthritis in two independent data sets.

OBJECTIVES Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is the commonest rheumatic disease of childhood. Uveitis is the commonest eye complication of JIA, potentially leading to eye surgery and/or visual loss. JIA is a complex genetic trait with well-established HLA-DRB1 associations. The aim of this study was to investigate the involvement of HLA-DRB1 in JIA-associated uveitis. METHODS A set of 130 U...
